John performs with a number of ensembles in the Des Moines area, including the Des Moines Big Band, Des Moines Community Orchestra, CJC Big Band, Grand Avenue Ruckus, and the Metro Brass Quintet. John started the Metro Brass Quintet in April 2014 and has performed around the Des Moines metro for years. John is a strolling accordion player as well and has played for Oktoberfest events and assisted care facilities. John manages and designs the websites for the Des Moines Community Jazz Center (CJC) and the Des Moines Community Orchestra.
John completed his Master’s degree in Trombone Performance at the University of Minnesota in May 2013. John graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln where he earned a BA in Music Performance and a BS in Environmental Studies.
Outside of music, John is the Sustainability Manager at REG, Inc. which is a renewable fuel production company.
